Frequently Asked Questions

What is a .dclk file?

A .dclk file is DocuLock's encrypted file format — an authenticated AES-256-GCM envelope that only DocuLock can open. No other editor, viewer, or archive tool can read a .dclk; you need DocuLock (in your browser or your account) plus the matching .dclkey. Read the full article.

What plans does DocuLock offer?

DocuLock has three tiers: Free (10 documents, AES-256 encryption, basic notes), Starter at $7/month (100 documents, folders, tags, sharing, keys vault, 2,000-char notes), and Professional at $17/month (unlimited documents, digital notarization, Bitcoin blockchain signing, unlimited sharing). See the pricing page for the full comparison.

What's the difference between Starter and Professional?

Starter ($7/mo) covers organizing your vault: 100 documents, folders, tags, sharing, and the encryption keys vault. Professional ($17/mo) adds everything Starter has plus unlimited storage, digital notarization certificates, and Bitcoin blockchain signing via OpenTimestamps — the proof-of-existence features.

Which plans include notarization and blockchain signing?

Digital notarization and Bitcoin blockchain signing are Professional-plan features. Free and Starter users can still encrypt and store documents; upgrade to Professional to generate timestamped certificates and anchor document hashes to the Bitcoin blockchain.

Can I share documents with others?

Sharing is available on Starter and Professional plans. Starter supports sharing with other DocuLock users; Professional adds unlimited sharing volume. Free users can still send a .dclk file manually, but the recipient will also need the matching .dclkey to decrypt.

How does DocuLock protect my files?

Files are encrypted in your browser before upload. DocuLock stores encrypted data and related metadata needed to operate the service.

Can I reset access if I lose my password or key?

You should keep your credentials and recovery information in a safe place. Losing required access details can prevent access to encrypted files.

Where can I manage billing or cancel a plan?

Billing and subscription controls are available in your account settings. You can contact support if you need help with plan changes.

What happens after I delete a file or close my account?

Deleted content may remain in backup or archival systems for a limited period, as outlined in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Who do I contact for help?

Use our contact form or email support@doculock.site for support requests.

Can DocuLock read my documents?

In normal operation, files are encrypted on your device before upload, so we do not have access to plaintext file contents. We may still process and store metadata (such as file names, sizes, and timestamps) needed to run the service. See our Privacy Policy for details.

What does “notarization” mean in DocuLock?

When we refer to notarization, we usually mean cryptographic proof, timestamps, verification, or audit-style records—not a licensed legal notary act unless we say otherwise in writing. For legal requirements (witnesses, filing, official notarization), consult a qualified professional. See our Terms of Service.

Which browsers work best?

Use a current version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Client-side encryption relies on your browser; keep it updated and avoid extensions that interfere with JavaScript or storage if you run into issues.

How do I download or open a stored document?

From your account, open the document and use the download flow. You will need the same passphrase or keys you used when encrypting—DocuLock cannot recover lost passphrases for you.

Are there limits on how many documents I can store?

Limits depend on your plan. Check the pricing page for current tiers. If your account has a custom limit set by an administrator, that applies to your account.

How are payments processed?

Paid plans are billed through our payment processor. We do not store full card numbers on our servers; card details are handled according to the processor’s security practices at checkout.

Can I use DocuLock on a phone or tablet?

You can use a modern mobile browser, but complex uploads and encryption work best on a desktop or laptop with a stable connection. If something fails, try another browser or device.

What should I do if upload or encryption fails?

Check your network, refresh the page, and confirm your browser allows the site to run scripts. Try a smaller file or a different browser. If problems persist, check System Status and contact support with what you were doing and any error message shown.

Should I keep my own backups?

Yes. We strive for reliable storage, but no cloud service can promise zero risk of loss or outage. Keep copies of critical files in a separate location you control.

Where are the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service?
